Hello all,
Are you listening? Yes, we are horrible horrible horrible bloggers, neglecting this baby for a long time. Lets just say we were extremely busy with senior year, and I guess we kind of lost inspiration and motivation to write. And its not like you want bloggers who aren't like... 100% willing to blog...thats just dishonest blogging. But I might just be trying to justify our lack of blogging.....

ANYWAYS, WE'RE BACK.

So, who remembers when we blogged about Simon Curtis? Well, back in March of last year, we blogged about him here, Now, what did we say about him getting popular? Well, WE WERE RIGHT (insert super snobby "I told ja so" look here)

Ladies and gentlemen, Simon Curtis, is going be debuting at the freaking ROXY. Opening for 'Glees' Cory Monteiths band, Bonnie Dune. So it is literally confirmed that Simon Curtis is one step away from being the first boy Robot to shimmy his way into stardom. Here at Mustart, we always thought so ever since we scrammed to download his 8Bit album. He converted our hearts to Robot material after his album was available for download, and now we are forever faithful fans---I mean, robots.

Recently, Simon collaborated with another up and coming artist, Ro Danishei, in this song:

Fellow bloggers, do not deny the obvious kickassness that is this song. Simon and Ro will both be at the Roxy, so if you're in and around the LA area, GO. January 9th people!

Bedroom Therapy

It's taken me long enough, but I've finally gotten around to re-decorating my room.

It was turning into an ugly dump. I won't even show you any before pictures. That's how unnatractive it was. But it's also because I don't have any pictures, anyway.

I'm still in the middle of it all, but I do have a crappy picture of the room colour that I took from my phone to show you guys.

There's the colour. And that green dresser in the corner is the colour of two dominant pieces of furniture in my room, so that gives you an idea of how the wall and furniture look together.

Is it really weird to paint your bedroom a dark colour? Most people seemed to think I was a freak of nature for choosing a dark blue. Well, to hell with light colours! Going bold is so much more fun.

I'm still in the process of it all and probably won't be completely finished for another two weeks or so. I've been looking at Apartment Therapy for ideas. See, I don't live in an apartment, but my room is awfully small, which is why I chose to stick to AT for decor ideas.

Sara Barielles, you minx. The above song is quite catchy, and is already making its way up the charts. Her newest album, Kaleidoscope Heart is number one. Her newest music video, 'King of Anything' is lovely and artistic. I especially love the 'forks-instead-of-piano-keys' look. For someone who was dead off the mainstream music scene for a little, its safe to say that she is definitely back. One of her most popular songs was 'Love Song':

Sound familiar? It was featured in many movie soundtracks... I can see why, questioning and really catchy. Its a rare find, someone who can write music, and perform it. Sara Barielles does both well, especially the writing lyrics part.

School Shopping Sex

Summer is coming to an end... and that means SHOPPING.
Shopping, if done and spent well, can get very tiring, but in the end, one is happy with their productivity. If the consumer is happy, then the economy is happy (At least, that's what I tell my mum when trying to convince her to let me buy something expensive...). Hello! this is 2010, if shopping is the only thing keeping the economy booming, then I say... why the hell not? Not only is this time of year the second to Christmas in terms of spending $$, but it's one of the busiest. From last minute purchases, to the swipe of the card that you know you'll eventually have to pay, it's all in good fun... and debt.

Clothes aren't the only thing... I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but the smell of new school supplies leaves me intoxicated. I love buying new ink pens, or writing the first word on a fresh piece of paper. Who needs alchohol when you can have safe eye sex with a new notebook? Who needs romance when you've got a sexy and chic ink pen as a boyfriend?

The one thing that leaves me disappointed every year, is the lack of range and fashion sense that some teens have today. Watching shows like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars really gets me excited about school fashion, but in the end, its all the same Abercrombie & Fitch tee-ripped jeans-converse kind of style. It's so hard to find someone who's not the perfect teenage stereotype. Seriously, if I could add anything to the walking billboard ways of highschool, it would be REAL FASHION.

The skirts a little short for school rules... but who follows those anyway?


Although this is from a season one episode... I still think about Jenny Humphreys (Taylor Momsen) outfit. LOOK AT THAT JACKET.


Dream Highschool Sweetheart. Goodness, why do guys have to wear over sized t-shirts and fake Ed Hardy shirts.... "to look cool".

Would kill for the jacket Blair(Leighton Meester) is wearing.

ith the fashion that goes around in typical highschools... this would even be an improvement. I actually quite like the cardigan.


Spencer Hastings and Emily Fields... it would be rare to see anyone dressed like that at my high school. Sigh, I wish I went somewhere where people didn't over wear Uggs and Sweatpants like it was underwear.

They all have a sense of style that fits them. I know its a TV show... but I'm sure there are tons of people out there like this. In fact, if I wouldn't get scrutinized for it, hell, I would dress up like this to school. I really wish people didn't avoid knee-high socks like it was the plague.

Yes, I realize that most things are expensive, but the money some of these teens spend on a flimsy, and sometimes ugly Hollister sweater... they could buy a decently original and fashion-forward outfit with. There are so many ways one can replicate the outfits on the tele. In fact, here are more of my favourites. I'm sure with a little bit of looking, and not a blind eye for good & fashionable clothing... one could actually pull off these outfits for a much cheaper price.

P.S: You probably think I go to someschool with no fashion at all... Its rare to find, but there are a few people who actually dress out-of-the-box. Maybe we'll feature them sometime in a post.

My art.

I've finally acquired Adobe Photoshop again. I don't even remember how long it's been since I last had it installed on my computer.

I've been reluctant about posting my own artwork because
a) I'm not sure if it's any good half the time and
b) when I do think it's good, I scan it, my scanner fucks up the quality and makes my nice drawing look like crap.

Now, I can edit and fix up my illustrations so they don't look like ugly scribbles when I share them with you guys!

Here's one.

Birth of a Legend

Today, Michael Jackson would have been 52 if he were still alive.

Michael lived a sad, hard, yet very succesful life. At the age of four, he was thrusted into the Jackson 5. His talent was evident from a young age.

The Jackson brothers practiced for hours every day and won local talent contests before they got signed to a record label. During this time they took regular beatings from their father, Joe; he would strip them down and have them rubbed in oil before he beat them with a whip. Joe was a nasty, strict businessman. He made no effort to hide Michael from adult things; thus ruining his innocence. Michael and his brothers would often perform at nightclubs where strippers were present. Sometimes I get teary-eyed thinking about his childhood.

Finally in 1968, they got signed to Motown records and were now performing as The Jackson 5.

Michael was (as far as I know) the only child star to remain popular even after he outgrew his young image. Eventually he wanted to break away from The Jackson 5 and establish a solo career because he felt that they weren't developing well enough as a group.

The Wiz was basically a black version of Wizard of Oz, where Michael played the scarecrow. On the set of the movie he met famous producer Quincy Jones. In 1979 they produced his fifth solo album--also known as his first hit solo album, Off The Wall together.

The background effects in this video always make me LOL.


With Quincy at 1984 Grammy Awards; he won 8 Grammys for Thriller.

Michael and Quincy teamed up for his next two albums as well; Thriller (1982) and my personal favourite: Bad (1987).

Four years later, Dangerous came out but the producer this time was not Quincy Jones. Teddy Riley, Bill Bottrel, and Michael Jackson produced the album together. How many artists come out with 4 ass-kicking, chart-topping, record-breaking albums in a row?

I like to think of Michael as a pop star with a rock n roll attitude. He really was badass.

President Ronald Reagan and the First Lady honor Michael in 1984 for his charity work and for allowing Beat It to be used in a drunk driving commercial.

One thing that's overlooked by Michael is his extensive charity work. During a Pepsi-Cola commercial, Michael's hair lit on fire and he suffered second degree burns. The company payed him $1.5 million and he donated it to the burns unit at Brotman Memorial Hospital. In the same year he donated $5 million to charity, which came from the earnings of The Jacksons' Victory tour. Michael did this because was against the high ticket prices. This is part of the reason why I always respected and idolized Michael, because he never stopped giving to people even when he raked in millions and millions of dollars. He always wanted to heal the world...

Seeing these photos of Michael with Madonna always makes me chuckle. Basically what happened was, they attended the 1991 Grammy awards together. They looked like the perfect powerful pop couple. The King and the Queen. However, things weren't so bright beneath the surface; Madonna wanted to change Michael's look, cut his hair, change his style, and all that jazz. He basically told her, this is me, if you don't like it, then oh well. You can listen to a clip below where Michael Jackson speaks badly about her...LOL.

I purposely chose not to talk about any of Michael's trials and hardships with the courts. I don't think it's fair to him and I don't think he deserves to be remembered for that. He was my hero, and many other people's hero as well. His true fans always believed in him and his kind-heartedness and never fell for the media lies and scandals. He had no childhood, and as he grew older he yearned for it more than ever. This man was forced to lose his innocence before he chose to, and got nearly killed every day with his father's beatings. I wish it weren't so, and I wish he could have at least had a nice, easy life in his older years. But there's always a price to pay for mega-stardom. I still love him and respect him for continuing his kind, charitable, loving ways, even after the world treated him poorly.

Douglas Booth: Eye Candy

Douglas Booth is an English bon bon model turn actor. The 17 year old was acknowledged as an actor when he portrayed Boy George in the drama 'Worried About the Boy' which aired on BBC. Not only does he have an extremely impressive modeling portfolio (with the help of that gorgeous jawline), but he's now going to be thrusted into the spotlight as Miley Cyrus' love interest in the movie LOL: Laughing Out Loud.

Him as Boy George. Lovechild of the real one...that's what I'm thinking.

The movie, LOL, focuses on a teenage girl named Lola (Miley Cyrus) who loses her virginity, smokes marijuana, talks about sex incessantly, stumbles upon bi-curiosity, gets wasted, and accidentally shows her mom (Demi Moore) her Brazilian wax. Ashley Greene also stars in the movie, and plays Lola's arch-nemesis. The film is in production now, and is expected to come out next year......I can't wait to see what the critics will say about THIS one.

Taylor Momsen: High Class Hooker

“People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred. Now Rihanna’s wearing f-ckin’ leather jackets, and it’s really annoying . . . (My style is) high-class hooker.”

Back in April, we did the first 'Tunes Tuesday (aka, an excuse for missing Music Monday).' The first Tunes Tuesday featured the first single of upcoming singer Taylor Momsen. This (now) 17 year old girl has captured the hate of many Gossip Girl fans out there, portraying the snobby and rude little Jenny Humphrey. But fret not, her role on the show is no longer (for now), and by the time being.... shes singing, and doing a kick ass job.

This is when we first blogged about her featuring her song, Make Me Wanna Die. Her band, The Pretty Reckless, was a headliner in the Warped Tour this year, travelling around North America and jammin with bands like All Time Low, Sum 41, The All American Rejects, and others.

Momsen is currently working on her full length album with Paramore producer Kato Khandwala, and is expected to come out soon. Her EP, came out June 22nd and caught the eye of big radio stations up in the UK. Here she is doing her own rendetion of 'Love The Way You Lie' by Eminem/Rihanna and 'Islands' by The XX at Radio 1's Live Lounge.

Although she runs her mouth a lot for a 17 year old in the music industry, shes got the talent and pipes to back it up. If she wasn't dissing the likes of Rihanna and pop sensation Miley Cyrus, then she'd be a lot more popular. But heck, we still love her here at Mustart!

Blake Lively is the cover-girl for Interview Magazine's September 2010 issue.

Can I just say that the photoshoot by Craig McDean is...MIND. BLOWING.

I've always thought of McDean as one of those God-given gifts to photography. Or perhaps even to mankind. The prison-film effect on the photos really did it for me; he could have just left the shots the way they were (with a bit of enhancing in colour and whatnot of course), but why not add a beautiful visual effect to a beautiful photo? And a very fitting one at that, too.

He also did an outstanding, provocative photoshoot with Megan Fox (and her mannequin twin) for the June/July issue of Interview. Click here to see it.

HAS GOTTEN A HAIRCUT. I mean, either way, the girl is gorgeous, but still, this haircut....Blimey' it's beautiful!

Emma Watson is the popular bushy-haired (once upon a time ago) girl from the world-wide phenomenon known as Harry Potter. The series, consisting of 7 books, was taken to the big screen back in '02, and since then Emma Watson has been in the spotlight. From cameos in music videos to couture photo shoots, this girl has done mostly everything--she's even attending college in the states (where she happens to have very attractive friends).

At the mere age of 20, this British-born actress has topped the money-makers chart, all while stealing the hearts of pubescent and hormonal teenage boys out there (along with their uber jealous girlfriends).

Today is Madonna's 52nd Birthday! We will have a tribute post in her honour and it will double as Music Monday.

I really love Madonna. She is a favourite. For 30 years, this bitch has been kicking ass, winning the hearts of people from many generations. All this from a woman who lost her mother to cancer at the age of 5, had to take care of herself and her siblings, and had to work hard at everything else; she was a straight-A student! And at 19 she made the bravest move of her life: she relocated to New York with no more than $35 in her pocket.

Second best is never enough, you'll do much better baby on your own.

This is a photo from Interview Magazine, which was shot a few months back. I know this image has been photoshopped to hell and back, but those abs are REAL. Her skin is saggy and it's been airbrushed to make it look like it's young and smooth...it's not. She's still old, no matter what, and age will have an effect on her skin. But the muscles are real! She works hard at her body. At 52, Madonna has abs. I will have a lot of things at 52 but abs won't be one of them.

(I totally should have blogged about this way earlier, but better late than never.)

On Sunday, July 11th,

I attended Lady Gaga's Monster Ball in Toronto.

Best. Musical. Experience. EVER.

There we are on the far left.

I attended with my mom and my cousin. We had VIP Floor Tickets so we were standing right in front; practically a perfect view, until she got to the catwalk, where we only saw her ass.

Everyone should attend a Lady Gaga concert at least once in their lifetimes. I say this confidently because I caught my mom smiling, dancing, and singing along to the lyrics many times throughout the night (and she wasn't too excited about going because she thought she'd be attending a "satanic porn show", but later on told me she thought it was in fact "very decent" in regards to the suggestiveness).

The show has a storyline with elements from Wizard of Oz and her own past in New York. Her and her friends are trying to find their way to the Monster Ball and must overcome a set of obstacles to make it to their final destination. There's music, dialogue, as well as some personal talk from Lady Gaga to the audience and her Little Monsters.

Before we start with the tsunami of kick-ass pictures, I'm just going to let you know that I didn't take these. While I enjoyed my time yelling, dancing, and watching Gaga, my lovely mother took all the pictures for me. And they turned out DAMN GOOD too.

When doors opened, Gaga's good friend from New York was DJing. Lady Starlight used to Go-Go Dance with Gaga before she was famous; they wore indian headdresses, lit hairspray on fire, and danced to heavy metal tracks. Starlight was so energetic, and girl got good taste in music! She was spinning classic rock records on vinyl--yup, vinyl, not some electronic DJ crap.

Then came the opening act: Semi Precious Weapons. Also friends of Gaga from New York, these glam rockers are on a mission to bring Rock N Roll back. Justin Tranter spat champagne at the crowd!

And then, at 9:00,

there she was: Gaga in all her glamorous glory.

She started the show off with a track she only performs live: Glitter and Grease.

Her ass was so close, I felt like I could grab it.

She was looking at me around this time 8D

Now I should probably let you know what I was doing while all this took place. Well, each time she came around to my side of the stage and took a glance at me, I gave her the middle finger. Yup, that's right, I flipped my idol off. Why? I don't really know. But I think it has something to do with the fact that she has a fascination of her own with flipping people off, so I decided to give it back to her, I suppose. I was secretly hoping she'd give the finger back to me, but that never happened. (Although, she did glare at me a few times, and even pointed at me!)

The dancer on the left, Michael, was smirking at ME here! I was throwing up heart signs and yelling his name out ♥

This outfit...oh God. I don't know if I like it, but it's just so quirky, it makes me laugh when I see it.

The over-sized disco stick was entertaining. It doubles as a flashlight, did you know? After she finished singing LoveGame she said "Let me get a good look at you guys," and flashed her disco stick around the crowd so she could see us all.

Tell me that keytar isn't BADASS.

This part of the night was really nice. She got down on her good ol' flaming piano and played Speechless for us. In addition to that, she also played a new song off her new album called You and I. It hasn't been released officially; she just plays it live. But it's a beautiful song. I was one of the first people to scream out the name of the song when she asked the crowd if we know what the title was, and also one of the few to sing all the lyrics. Superfan? I think so.

By far the best and most beautiful picture of the night. Well...maybe the shot of her ass is a close second.

THIS, folks, is what Gaga likes to call The Living Dress. Inspired by Hussein Chalayan's Spring 2007 collection, this dress has batteries and mechanisms installed between the fabric that makes it move. My God, this was quite a spectacle, seeing Gaga's dress move as she rose up on her platform and sang So Happy I Could Die.

Gaga changed THREE TIMES during Monster. First she came out looking like a blob of hair, then she took it off to reveal the outfit in the photo above, and then her dancers huddled over her aggressively and out jumped a bloody Gaga in a black leotard.

He ate my heart and then he ate my brain...

In these two shots, Gaga was looking at me and showing me her teeth. It's funny how these two photos in particular had to turn out blurry. Anyway, here's a video of her pointing at me and my cousin at 0:11, when she sings "Got no salvation."

My favourite part of the night. Alejandro. At the very beginning of the song, Gaga sang the oh-owoah-owo-oah part in a very sad, melancholic voice. It resonated. It gave me goosebumps. Those 15 seconds of her singing made me want to cry. I tried watching videos of it after, but it just didn't do it any justice. But here's a pretty decent video if you wanna see:

It sucked not being able to get good pictures of her singing Poker Face, because this outfit was so nice. She was on the catwalk the whole damn time for this song.

MY CAMERA DIED AFTER THIS. Noooooo.

Paparazzi was SO COOL. She was fighting a giant monster and used her flaming female weapons to kill him! The only song after Paparazzi was Bad Romance, and the concert was over.

But the night was still young for my crew. I insisted that we go to the hotel that Gaga was rumored to be staying at to see if we could catch her. Instead, we saw Starlight walking around outside smoking a cigarette. I called her over and she was a total sweetheart; gave us both a hug; she told me I look great. We chatted a bit and got a crappy phone picture...what a great time for my camera to be dead.

After that we grabbed some junk from McDonalds and pigged out at home.

Hey folks! This is our first blog post in a long while. Sorry for being so dead. But we're back, I can ensure you this much.

This monday, I knew I HAD to share this video with you guys for Music Monday. I love the song, too. I really do. But the video is spectacular.

Kanye West's Power

I am completely blown away by this masterpiece! Kanye collaborated with artist/director Marco Brambilla.

After he saw 'Civilization', a video that Brambilla made for The Standard [Hotel], Kanye blogged about it, and then became interested in working with him on the video for Power.

Brambilla explained that he thought of the song as "a symbol, an icon of power about to fall, like an emperor about to fall." He describes the video as "a video portrait of Kanye as this symbol of power." On the inspiration for the video, he says "I think the visual inspiration for me was definitely the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel; they are kind of bombastic and iconic." The inspiration is quite evident, since "Power" looks very much like a reinaissance painting.

Kanye makes a bounty of crazy decisions; half good, half bad. Maybe it's a little stupid to exchange your bottom row of teeth for diamonds, but he has always proven himself as a great artist. He's experimental with his music, his visuals, and his overall image. Especially fashion-wise; can we give this boy an award for being the best-dressed rapper? Recall: my personal favourite, the denim-on-denim look.

.. is a fabulous Muslim designer. She takes modern day fashion, and adds it into the Middle Eastern palette. Rabia is a United Arab Emirates born fashion designer, who studied Business and Fashion Design in the US. She attended Esmod(French Fashion Uni) and in October 2007, debuted her collection at the Dubai International Fashion Week. There, she stirred a lot of buzz being a new designer, and eventually won the "Emerging Talent Competition". In 2008, Rabia went on to win the British Council's regional "International Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year" award. She still maintains her fashion forward thoughts, all while holding firm to her faith, Islam. This woman is extraordinary in what she does, and has taken Hijab(head covering) style, to the essence of beauty. Oh, what I would give to have a piece of her collection!

Taking a little bit of the harem pants style.. and a little hijab to it! LOVE this piece, my favourite. Rabia's collection consists of the not-so-norm head coverings. The way the hijabs fit on each models head in a different and more versatile way can't be anything but brilliant.

So, if you're one of our avid readers, then you should've realized by now that Ebo and I have not blogged in.... forever. Well, Nedda has more of a stand than I do, seeing as she actually took the time out of the hectic festivities to get online and blog.

I know the last blurb-blah blog we wrote was totally rendering towards the "I swear we'll blog every day route", but we totally lied. Well, not lied, but told half-truths. Both Nedda and I enrolled in summer school, and that has kept us busy. However, due to lazy reasons and tiresome days, I've dropped out. So, you'll probably be seeing a lot more of me.

Now enough with the babbling. I suggest you don't even count this as a blog post.. seeing as its full of (legitimate excuses).

I feel like it's about time we pay tribute to the almighty fashion and beauty photographer Ellen von Unwerth in a post.

Before becoming a photographer, Ellen von Unwerth was a fashion model for ten years (that's her in the picture on the right). She then took her skills in sensual photographs and placed herself behind the lens, rather than infront of it. This woman has practically photographed nearly every iconic woman in popular culture!

She recently did a photoshoot with Christina Aguilera for OUT magazine. So superb, it's definitely one of my favourites of hers.

But if you want to read a well-thought analysis on the Alejandro video, please continue. :)

As we have stated a hundred times already, Mustart has been dead, and you can blame school for that. We still have another two weeks until we're done. :(

But Alejandro just came out today! I couldn't help but ditch my school work for one night to blog about this. Oh I love Lady Gaga so much. So so so much. Huge fan over here, yup. In fact I'll be seeing her live at the Monster Ball on July 11. Excited! ♥

Gaga's latest 9-minute masterpiece was directed by the art genius Steven Klein.
Klein, who is a photographer, has a long list of clients, including but not limited to Interview Magazine, V Magazine, Vogue, GQ, POP, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, D&G, Yves Saint Laurent, and the magnificent Madonna. He is well known for his eerie, vulgar, homoerotic imagery he uses in his photography, which evidently maneuvered it's way into the Alejandro video.

Immediately, I had to take matters into my own hands and dissect this video to the best of my ability. You gotta love this woman for her ambiguity; she never limits herself as an artist. She manages to take songs that seemingly have one literal meaning, and twists them through her performances and music videos.

I haven't had the chance to fully comprehend this video as of yet, there's still much to fish out and discover.

Here we go.

Starting off, the video opens with a group of gay men marching together as an army of soldiers. My belief is that they are marching together as united individuals who have a war to win with religious groups in society and the government, who do not accept them and thus, discriminate.

Then we see a piece of meat (I can't really tell, at first I thought it was a heart, but now I'm not sure although it's clearly an organ or body part) that has the anarchy symbol on it. It's frozen, cold; a reflection of the way the government is towards homosexuals. The best way to describe this is Death to the Government, or at least, death to it's prejudice laws. This scene is totally up for interpretation. During the 'funeral' she speaks: I know that we are young and I know that you may love me, but I just can't be with you like this anymore...Alejandro. Taking that into account, they must be mourning because they have lost love, or rather, their right to love.

The song kicks off into dance-mode. Gaga is seen wearing an army-fied version of a crown headpiece. She looks like the Queen of their army. Perhaps, leading a war for revenge of what they have lost. Now, there was only one thing I knew about the video before watching it: that it was about her relationship with gay men; she wants their love, but they want a different love...a pure friendship, rather than a romance. Looking at this scene, she may be leading their army but she is still hurt, or so it seems by the look on her face; perhaps because she knows it is not her love that they want, but she proves her loyalty to them for the undying friendship they have given her by leading them. But--keep in mind that she is struggling...because there's a difference between someone who leads you to a fight, and someone who fights with you.

Gaga as a latex nun is probably one of the best things I've ever seen, simply because I find it humorous.

Ok, jokes aside now.

It's important to note that nuns are not supposed to engage in sexual activity. Her being dressed as a nun parallels the way a gay man views her, as something that they will not love, or make love to. Gaga has also stated that she is a very religious person but finds religion confusing, which leads me to think that these scenes with her as a nun, praying with a rosary in her hand, represent her praying for help; to find a way to understand what to do. She cannot choose which side to take, because while she is religious, religion condemns the people of this community that she loves and is friends with.

We now move onto a more sexual scene involving nothing but men in heels, beds with ropes, and Gaga. Further portraying the struggle that she is in, Gaga seems to try and blend in with these men now, trying to be like them. After all, she is the only female around many men she loves and appreciates but is torn and still feels like she does not fit in with them, despite the fact that she is accepted. It's evident, because of all the switching between roles on the beds; they cannot decide what part she can take.

And then the men form a circle around Gaga, draped in a latex cloak with symbols of the Antichrist on it. You could say she has rejected religion, but it's unclear whether she is rejecting it as a whole or simply rejecting certain views it has. She's through with the struggle and realizes what she is going to fight for. Gaga then consumes (literally) a rosary, as a way of saying that religion has consumed her to the point of madness and confusion.

The army is now walking towards the battle pridefully; as if they are walking down a runway, with plenty of stride. But Gaga does not take on the role of a leader anymore, she is now more unified with them.

Seemingly random at first, Gaga is singing (looking a little like Bono?) with a wooden cross situated behind her. This has got to be her way of saying she will sacrifice anything for them, including herself. After all, the crucifix is a representation of how Jesus died for our sins. Homosexuals are viewed as wrongdoers and she is ready to take the stones that are to be thrown a them. I also believe that this scene is symbolic of what she has said on countless occasions that they have given to her; spirit, for they were the first community to wholeheartedly accept her music the way the rest of the world has now. So now she sings for them.

Yeah, and then there's a good 20 seconds of another man appearing in the video. But he doesn't look anything like the other beauties with bowl-cuts. To be completely honest...I think he is the only straight man in the video. I really do. It's not coincidence that all those men had the same haircut, body, and clothing, because they're all gay, and by having them look so similar it represents that. But this straight man looks at it all in anger; it could be anything that he's furious about though. My guess is that it's because Gaga, a woman that he may possibly be lusting after, is supporting something that he doesn't like (homosexuality) or perhaps it's the other men themselves that he's looking at so revoltingly. And it also seems like he's watching something, probably a tape--notice how in the scene where she's singing into the mic there is a timer on the bottom...hmmm.

Gaga is pushed and thrown around by the group of men while she is still cloaked in her robe, but then she strips down to almost nothing, letting go of it all. And now she's just herself and has accepted both things that she was battling between.

Finally, we have the last scene. A man with a gun, and Gaga as a nun. Both tied with puppet strings, meaning that they have no control. But in this scene they both appear to be dead, and then Gaga's face is extinguished. They are not controlled by anyone anymore.

And there you have it, my analysis of the Alejandro video. If you actually read through all of that, I commend you. And if it made sense, then you deserve a cookie, because while I tried, it's very hard to pin down something so interpretive and say this is what it means!

Music Monday. I feel absolutely terrible about the long hiatus. I haven't blogged since... beginning of May. So heres my REVIVAL. Only, I'll probably be dead again until after the school-hectic-craze-faze is done.

A lot of artists out there use music as their muse, to find inspiration and ideas, or even just to "zone out" from the outside world. I, as a photographer/writer/wanna-be love to listen to Techno and house music while snapping or writing. It gives me a THRILLLLLLLLL that urges me to think with ease.

The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living

I have a question for you all.

Should there be a limit on art?

Take a look at the following, and perhaps it might help you form an answer.

This is The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1992) by the English artist Damien Hirst. It is a Tiger Shark preserved in formaldehyde in a vitrine. Now this will appear awfully offensive to some, but I actually enjoy this piece very much. Why? Because it has a concept, and it's clear. It's sharp. Maybe part of the reason why it's so clear is because this artwork is a potential offense. When I see this, the word "denial" runs through my head. It's true; when a loved one dies, there is a denial that accompanies their death. But that is a feeling, and this...is a visual. He brought that feeling to life.

Later on in 1993 Hirst did a similar piece known as Mother and Child Divided:

Similar to the first one, this consists of a mother cow and her calf cut in half and once again, preserved in formaldehyde.

Sooooooo...let me ask you again. Do you think there should be a limit on art? Or should the boundaries continue to be pushed?

Shepard Fairey is one of my favourite modern street artists. His art revolves around politics, our fears, the issues we don't want to confront, and his execution is always simple, yet bold and powerful. This man knows how to make a statement. His Obey Giant campaign, started in 1989, changed people's perspective on street art. However, his Hope campaign (Barack Obama) from 2008--which I'm sure most, if not all of you, are familiar with--took his popularity to a whole new level.

He is currently doing a May Day exhibition at Deitch. Read more about that here.

So, I realized today after Nedda Ebo told me in English class that the Music Monday post didn't work yesterday. So, let me just rephrase and reword a couple of things to make it WORK TODAY.

Before that face of disgust comes on (if you're not a fan of the singer)... this weeks Music Monday is......................
Can't Be Tamed-Miley Cyrus.
Give the song a listen first (then you can judge whether you like it or not). It's got kind of a Britney Spears/Xtina-esque vibe, and seems like it'll do good on the charts.

Nedda Ebo isn't that big of a fan of MC, but this song is quite catchy. I've taken a liking to it, loving the beat and the vocals behind them. A sigh of relief may be let out to all of those who aren't big fans of Miley, because on June 22nd, her last album is being released (as of now). She wants to focus more on movies, and I think this is a good song to be released for the first single! She'll be hosting the MMVAS(MuchMusic Video Awards) in Toronto Canada this year! Quite exciting.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with either her work or her name. She is my favourite fashion photographer, she isss...Jamie Nelson.

The New York-based photographer's work has been showin in numerous international publications, ad campaigns, and billboards. Some of which include Cosmo UK, Vanity Fair Italy, Lula, Nylon, Olay, Make Up For Ever, Warner Brothers, and Disney!

What I love about her photography is her ability to capture faces so gracefully and flawlessly. Her strength seems to lie in close-ups, which is rare; portraits are one of the hardest things to photograph.

Moving on...

My partner, Fatty Feliux, and I did a little photo shoot last Friday. You see, she's in a Yearbook class, and every week they have photo contests--this week, the photo entry needed to be a self portrait. Fatty wanted to look a little glammed up for the photo, so she kindly asked me to do her makeup.

Clearly we took it further than just being a "little glammed up."

Bless her for going through with this, rather than a simple makeup job, because I know so many people who would have never had the courage to take on this image in a self portrait. It really does take a lot. And besides, I think the purple, fairy-like, glittery skin suits her!

Ello all! It's been at slow week at Mustart, but its that time of week again, MUSIC MONDAY (Can you hear the applause...I'm imagining it). Monday always seems to be the most hated day of the week--seeing as it marks the first day back to work, school, and lack of sleep. But, theres always something to make your Monday less hindering; and that thing is MUSIC!

Taylor Swift's Change is this weeks song choice, and it may be old, but seeing as she did a kick-ass performance of the song yesterday on the ACM's, I had to post it up. It didn't receive a lot of hype on the mainstream music scene, but it is one of my favourites.

Swift got a lot of bad feedback when she sang with Stevie Knicks at the Grammies. People saying that she didn't really have the pipes to sing live(which in some cases is true, her voice tends to crack, but doesn't every artists?). Being a fan myself *don't use that against me* , I sorely agree on that opinion. In her performance yesterday at the ACM's, you can definitely see improvement. Check it out below!

Hello blog-readers!

The Alexander Hi Tek bag and sunglasses are the most drool-worthy to me, at the moment. That briefcase is just made of pure WIN, as are the sunglasses.However, the bag is 280 Euros...how dumb is that? Convert it to Canadian dollars and I'll be broke. Now I can't have it. Darn you, fashion! :( However, Fatty Feliux and I are loving the Aldo shoes, and in a more positive light, they're $100!

Tracing her way through the constellation, hey...

It's Music Monday again! This week's featured song is Drops of Jupiter by Train. As you probably well know, their song "Hey, Soul Sister" has climbed the charts and currently sits at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Many critics and listeners think that the band of three would would be a one hit wonder, but I've got a feeling they'll be wrong. This week's song is as soulful and mainstream-friendly as Soul Sister, and seems to be a favourite online.

...and the City. Oh, you dirty dirty minded people...I'm talking about the MOVIE! The second installment of The Sex and City movie comes out May 27th. Everyone who's anyone knows the reason most people watch Sex and the City is because of the -fashion-. The obnoxious rose pins, long flowing tails, tightly tailored suits, peep toe Jimmy Choo's--basically every piece of clothing, from head to toe, is the reason.

TV shows, movies, photoshoots, runways... Fashion wise, all of those would be boring without the help of a Stylist. Of course, if it weren't for the designers, then the stylist wouldn't have anything to work with. Who is the glamorous and innovative stylist of the stars of Sex and the City you may ask? Well... its Patricia Field. This lucky @!:#) has got talent. Just check out the trailer below, and you'll see what I mean.

Today's song for Music Monday is Acapella by Kelis.

Not only is this a great song, but the video deserves it's own spotlight. This is a total visual orgasm for all who appreciate the beauty of sight. I'm not sure how Kelis went from Milkshake (which is also a fab record) to this, but I'd say she's definitely on the right track.

What's noteworthy about the song is that the lyrics refer to love without being cliché. BIG BONUS. I find most love songs are a complete turn off because they lack uniqueness...who agrees?

"Its not the camera, it's the photographer"

I've always been interested in Photography. The way you can capture an emotion or movement in a still image fascinated me. You can go from pure innocence to rebellious edge in the click of a button. I used a point-and-shoot camera for the longest time, trying out different angles and positions to make me feel like what I perceived as a real photographer. It took a lot of convincing and patience for my parents to finally give in and get me an SLR(My aunt actually bought it for me, love her.)
I guess it was the need to feel more mature holding an SLR than the typical digital that gave me that boost. I take my Canon wherever I go now, whether it be for a walk, Toronto, or even indoors of my camera-whore cat. I always have my digital with me also, as its a lot easier to pull out. You can take great photos, no matter what camera you have. I'm not going to tell you all that I've perfected the art of photography, because I haven't. I still have a lot to learn (seriously, a lot).

The Beach is a great place to take photos, and they usually turn out cliché(Unless you make something out of it.).

The following photos, I did not edit (I suck at Photoshop, so I try and limit my use). These are some photos I took this past summer, except for the first one. The first one is of friend at a local beach, except the sun wasn't out... The rest are of my brother at the cottage last Summer.

“I just try to show people the way I see the world.”

No, I'm not talking about the obnoxious song by "LMFAO", I'm talking about photographic shots. I found out about Tyler Shields while I was browsing Flickr one day. Someone had commented on a photo of someone elses and said "So Tyler Shields, LOVE IT". Me, being the curious amateur, decided to Google this "Tyler Shields" fellow. I fell in love with his work instantly. Shields got into the industry at the mere age of 20 (Damn, I'm jealous). For 7 years now, he's been taking the term "Photography" to the extreme, effortlessly. His photographs are modern, like it, or hate it, it's still art. Of course, his work couldn't be considered as "snapshots", as you can tell he puts a lot of effort. It's a wonder how he gets some of the celebrities he takes photos of to do the crazy things he comes up with. His work has been published all over the place, including Rolling Stone and Vogue Italia(BIG DEAL!!!!!). From Ashley Greene to Oscar Nominee Anna Kendrick, Tyler Shields has got beautiful photographs, with beautiful models.

Ah, Sean Faris. Lovely. I said beautiful didn't I?

Spring has arrrrrrrrrived.. and so has the Fashion. Well, it's always been there but now its back to light cottons and cardigans (instead of ze fur and heavy wool). Yves Saint Laurent always manages to keep his spring line looking sleek and sophisticated--with barely any colour. His spring collection this year consists of organic and pastel colours, with a lot of black and white (more ivory I guess).

This first piece is something I can imagine being worn on a sunny day out in Parié (totally just felt like putting the ¨é" in). The overlapping down at the bottom gives it more of an edge than just a plain-straight-down-skirt. Yahknowwhattimean?

I absolutely LOVE the little petticoat at the top. The colour adds zest to the outfit, which consists of highrise shorts and a brown leather belt to accentuate the waist.

See what I mean when I say pastel-coloured? Plus the high-wasting and belt-accentuating! LOVES IT.

My favourite. I would totally wear this! Wouldn't you? (P.S: Look at those legssss! Oii, longer than my whole body).

Glue is Good: Gluekit

While browsing Billboard.com this morning, I noticed the image behind the article titled "Music's Top 40 Money Makers." (Interesting read, by the way--you should check it out).

I think it's great; very appealing to the eye. And of course, it's pop art style, which I am a total sucker for, so I obviously love it. Notice in the corner it says Illustration by Gluekit. "Who is Gluekit?" I asked myself, then proceeded to type it in everyone's good friend Google.

Turns out Gluekit is two people, Kathleen and Christopher, who make illustrations, graphics, and lettering. They have a long list of clients, including famous names such as Glamour, GQ, Maxim, New York Times, Nylon, Oprah, Rolling Stone, Urban Outfitters--and the list goes on.

Fall 2010 Favourites Part 2

Hello hello! We're back with Fall 2010 Favourites Part 2. I should have posted this days ago, but I was busy. Sorry for being a little late! One thing I dislike about technology--you need to be up-to-date with everything, but I like to just sit back and digest things. Anyway, enough babbling.

To your right, that is Jasmine Di Milo. Unfortunately, I didn't really enjoy anything in her collection, but this dress is so cute! I love jigsaw puzzles, even though I don't do them anymore, but it was a childhood hobby. I always think it's nice when fashion--or any work of art--is reminiscent of the past.

Now, let's talk about Versace.

What's so great about these is the way they've mixed leather with fabric. It's being done quite a bit on the runways, actually. And I'm enjoying it! But what I loved most about the collection are these dresses:

They remind me very much of the metal dress from Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2007 collection (Lady Gaga wore it in the Paparazzi music video). I really love that dress. The difference? These looks more wearable, and have more colour. Adoooooore them.

Speaking of Dolce & Gabbana, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana really nailed it this season with their collection.

It's always effective when you make contradictions; it makes people think and give things a second look and/or thought. Here, it's about how elegant these women look without pants on.

In fact, everything in this collection was elegant.

Even that last one looks elegant! (I found this so funny, by the way).

Next up, Dsquared².

It's very sad that this collection didn't get much love. True, Dan and Dean Caton strayed far away from what they've been doing up until this point, but I still think this collection is gorgeous.

It's rare for me to like big patches of fuzzy fur, but this is just fabulous. I think it helped make everything look much sexier, like vampire queen clothing. These women look like they should be sitting on a giant, gruesome black throne.

Claws on the shoulders, veins on the arms: A+.

While we're on the same spooky tone, why don't we look at Gareth Pugh?

It's no surprise, really; his clothing is always scary. It should be worn by all malevolent men and women of the world. But, I mean this is in the best way possible! I would love to see his stuffs in Sci-Fi movies. These men look like dark lords from the future, and these women...

Look like sinister bitches. Daaaamn. And check out the makeup! Beauty at a creepy level.

Yeah, Oops is right, shittiest and most creepy magazine cover I've ever seen. Seriously, photoshopping magazine covers has a limit you know. Swift's eyes are naturally blue, they didn't need to go and make her look like the devils right hand man--or woman in this case. She looks like an ice queen, or possessed, or just.. plain creepy.

On Monday, the song Freak by Estelle was featured for Music Monday.
Yesterday, the music video was released. Since I liked the song, I thought the video would be good, too. Wrong. If you have not watched the music video above already, do so now.

In Monday's post, Fatty Feliux stated that "Estelle's back." Well, go crawl back into your hole, because you just produced the crappiest music video ever. To me, this looks like she is just trying to jump on the "Freak" bandwagon, trying to fit in with Lady Gaga and Rihanna. I think many people are missing the point--it's not about being a freak because it's cool, it's about being yourself.

This video is really just too random. And when you combine a video this random with a song called "Freak" in an era where the freaks are rising to the top, you know someone is trying hard. It's empty, and sometimes empty videos are good--especially when paired with some great choreography--and sometimes they end up being stupid, like this.

Thoughts? How did you feel about the video?

Estelles back! So is Kardinal Offishal (Canadian Musician, win!). With this oh-so-fabulous song, that has now gotten to me. Nedda Ebo sings it(along with old Madonna music) all the time, and its hard not to fall in love with the catchy beat...At first, I was a bit "Meh, its an alright song". But once Nedda sends you a song, she will consistently, and randomly sing it, and sing it, and sing it (get the point>). Eventually, your brain gives in. In fact, Nedda's probably doing a victory smile behind the computer screen as she reads this.

It drives us. It makes us more determined to beat someone. It's evil, and can usually turn to become flat out vile. It's sometimes a pain. A grudge. A ticking bomb waiting to explode. It makes you want to scream. Want to stop. It sometimes deludes you. Changes your way of thinking. Should I play fair? Or dirty. Do I really want this for myself? Does the other person want it more than I do? Am I really worth it? CAN I beat them? My country depends on me. My team depends on me. My family depends on me. My coach, my friends. But do I depend on myself?

What does it take to be an Olympian? Do you have to be mentally stable as well as physically? Could you really face your countries wrath if you lose? Or if you win, their ever-so-elated hugs and congratulations? Could you take the fame that comes with a win, or the scrutiny that comes with a loss? Would you, after 4 years of intense practice, grueling 7 hour days, and injuries unknown to the typical, be able to run through your event easily? Or will it be hard. Will all the thoughts running through your head make you screw up, or victorious? Will the weight of your country on your shoulders make you more determined to come out on top, or will you fall to the bottom.

The 21st Olympic Winter games are sadly coming to a close, and in less than 1 hour the fate of the Canadian hockey team will be put on the line. Will they beat Team USA in the game of the year? Or will they once again, fall too short.

Urgh, I saw these in an old Flare magazine of mine, and I wanted them really badly (especially the top ones) so I drew them.

Life sucks! But drawing these things makes me feel better. I don't know why.

p.s. the page was not perfectly flat, so it looks like I drew the heel much shorter than the shoe...but in real life, it doesn't look like that. :/

Not a summary of any certain show, 'cause let's face it, I'm too lazy for that, and fashion is not my forte, but that doesn't mean I can't pick out a few things I like and share my thoughts on them with you, right? ;D

So let's proceed. ;)

To the left (to the left, everything you own in the box to the left!) that is Matthew Williamson. Honestly, what can I say? I'm a sucker for neons. Albeit, it is the easiest way to make a statement, really...but nonetheless, neons never cease to make me drool. <3 Hearts for neons!

Ok so here are some of my favourite "awkwards":

Calvin Klein
Oh baby, this is so mental hospital nurse chic. I mean, there's an atmosphere of insanity around this dress. Simple. White. Creepy. Slightly futuristic, too. All that at once, and of course, still stylish. <3 Hearts for creepy dresses. :)

Paris 68
Mini-skirt pants, yay! Well, more like tights, actually. I love it when pants give off illusions like that. It reminds me of the skort (but obviously way better). I remember in 2nd Grade when I used to wear skorts, and I loved to pull up the skirt part and surprise people..."NO! It's not a skirt, it's a SKORT!!!!!1111 I'M COVERED!"

Okay, so this is not quite the same idea, I can't pull anything up, but I can still trick people. And what makes these pants better is the fact that they are metallic. <3 Hearts for metallic illusion pants!

This is so futuristic, beautiful, and sexy, all at once. Wouldn't you love to float in space while wearing this?

This is awkwardness at it's best. Look at the awkward bubble! It's like there's a baby in there! Yes, that's it, it's a baby pocket, guys. She got pregnant on the left side of her body. That is something that needs to happen to me so I have an excuse to wear this in the future.

Now I am going to share with you a couple of collections that made me squeal with ultimate pleasure. Please welcome...Meadham Kirchhoff.

On Style.com, this was described as dark, goth-y, deconstructed streetwear. Call it what you want, but to me, this shit is so regal. I'm absolutely stunned. Yes, I suppose it does look like clothes you found in the garbage, but the way Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff composed all these things together works so fabulously to make these models looks like royality. Queens and Princesses of their own nations, maybe one you can find behind the wardrobe.

To me, it just reeks of royalty, each one being a different kind. Or maybe they're more like different queens for different species of subhumans, haha. <3 Hearts for trashy royalty!

Next up, the lovely Vivienne Westwood.

The best thing I love about this collection is the mish-mash, crafty feel to it. I really can't decide what it is about Vivienne Westwood's Red Label that stands out. This outfit to the right reminds me of my parents' bed cover (they look very similar). I am tempted to steal it off their bed, cut it up, sew it to make it look similar to this, and wear it in front of them. "Look, mommy, look, daddy! I'm wearing your bed covers! *whack*"

But really, I could never make it look this good.

Oh how I love the variety of coats. That first model's face reminds me of Johnny Depp. Very versatile, but again, still mish-mash, still crafty.

My ultimate favourite out of all the shows--and this is a TOUGH choice people!--I've got to say isssssssssss...Jeremy Scott.

Why? It's probably a bit of a surprise. His collection wasn't as out-there as anything I mentioned above. But there were little things he did that, for me, were instant fashion turn-ons. In the picture above, it was the leather pants that allured me. How can I resist that? If every guy wore pants like that, they'd all be raped by me.

You see what I mean?! It's all just completely epic and amazing. Silhouette attached to your outfit? Doesn't get any better than that. Oversized cardigan with STYLE plastered on it large enough for the blind? I want to walk down the street, wearing that, with my arms opened wide and flapping in the air, yelling "I'm a stylish birdie!" And of course, the last outfit. Gold reflexes in various shapes on leather...it's...so...shiny! *drools* No seriously though, I love it, can I call this a shiny rocker chick look?

Giant leather bow on your ass?! YES PLEASE!

But this.

Transcends. Everything.

Does it get any cooler than that? Walking down the runway, wearing your dress...but holding it at the same time. So clever! This is why his collection is one of my favourites (if not -the- favourite) so far.

Who, might you ask, is this scruffy bon bon? Well, to answer your question, its Dave Franco. Younger brother of the notoriously known evil villian in Spiderman played by James Franco. He's in the new issue of Details mag (One of my favourite magazines ever, as they seem to have drool-material photos). So pick it up on Newstands and lovely bookstores across the NA!

Oh, by the way readers, Nedda and I currently reside in Canada, therefore we spell things the Canadian way... with unnecessary "u"s. I thought I'd warn you from now.

For the detail oriented ones here, we've put up a new header, with the ever so clever "Mustart" logo. We spent out Friday night dressing up an obnoxiously yellow mustard bottle because we want this blog to work out. SO...If you read this blog, and happen to like it, then what harm will it do ya to follow or possible advertise us on your own blog? We're likely to do the same (I swear, we don't bite).

Today's Monday, so we're going to do a "Music Monday" thing, kind of like the twitter craze. Except here at Mustart, Justin Bieber doesn't trend.

I'm a day late, but so what, this needs to be shared.

I love Kina Grannis! When I heard Message From Your Heart a while back, I was astounded by her talent. I really enjoy the lyrics as much as her soft tunes (she writes her own songs, by the way)--"This is a message from your heart, your most devoted body part, taking blood and making art." This is the kind of music I can imagine being played in Starbucks while enjoying a nice Cinnamon Dolce Latte, mmm...

And the Valentine video, aww, so cute. I love the animation falling like dominoes. "So won't you be my honey bee?"
